Our 5th Generation AeroLithium aircraft batteries use 8mm threaded stud terminals and are now available either shrink wrapped, for applications where a hard case is not needed, or Aluminum for more durable requirements, where the aluminum case replaces the traditional battery box.

Additional Notes:
  • Aug ’15 Update:  All Aero packs for aircraft recommend a lithium balancing charger (+$75, $85 without battery).  All owners using Lithium packs will check the internal cell balance every 20 flight hours with the charger.  If all is good for two checks, increase cell check interval to 30 hours, if good, increase to 40 hours and maintain.  This applies to all lithium batteries made by anybody.
  • All batteries are pre-balance charged and include a balancing circuit.
  • All packs are direct replacement for any lead acid battery and other lithium batteries.

  • A good method to determine what cranking amps your starter needs to start the engine is a clamp-on ammeter around a battery cable.

Many still think that all Lithium batteries are the same, unstable technology.  And there are major PbAcid battery mfr’s putting out downright false information.

If you don’t live, eat and breath lithium… all you know is what you read. So, here is some reading material to get you on the right track:

Charging System Basics

An engine’s electrical system is said to be a 12 volt system, but this is slightly misleading. An aircraft’s charging system will generally produce a voltage between 13.5 and 14.4 volts while the engine is running. It needs to generate more voltage than the battery’s rated voltage to overcome the internal resistance of the battery. This may seem strange, but the current needed to recharge the battery would not flow at all if the charging system’s output voltage was the same as the battery voltage. A greater difference of potential (voltage) between the battery’s voltage and the alternator’s output voltage will provide a faster charging rate.  Thus, a Lithium battery will draw less charging current and charge quicker than the typical sealed (or older wet cell) lead acid aviation battery.
